Just a quick PSA before my bio - I’m changing my name! I’m going back to our original Italian family name, so from 2026 I’ll go by Max Cavalli.
Anyway, back to more me…
I’m Max. I’m a film editor.
I cut the BAFTA award-winning ‘Jellyfish and Lobster’, and the TIFF premiering ‘Poster Boy’. I made my broadcast TV editing debut in 2026, cutting the comedy ‘Village Idiot’ for Channel 5/Paramount’s Play for Today series. I will begin work on a series for HBO in Autumn 2026.
As an assembly editor, I helped cut Apple TV’s ‘The Last First: Winter K2’, which premiered at Sundance 2026, and A Girl Called Dusty, which is currently in post production. My assistant credits include ‘Hill’ (Sky) and ‘7/7: A Homegrown Terror’ (Sky Docs).
I grew up in London, and speak French and Italian. Graduating from the National Film and Television School Editing MA in 2023, shorts I’ve cut have won multiple Audience awards and Jury prizes, and played at festivals around the world (AFI, BFI LFF, Palm Springs, Encounters, etc).
For me editing is about getting to the heart of the story and the characters on screen, and about being a supportive and adaptable collaborator. Whether the film is raw and observational, or highly stylised and daring, I always aim to tailor my style of editing to the film and to aim to achieve the director and producer’s vision. And, it goes without saying, but I always want the edit to be a good time!
