Just a quick PSA before my bio - I’m changing my name! I’m going back to our original Italian family name which my grandfather changed, so for my credits beginning in 2026 I’ll go by… Max Cavalli.

Anyway, back to more me…

I’m Max. I’m a film editor.

I cut the BAFTA award-winning ‘Jellyfish and Lobster’, for which I also won Best Editing at the British Short Film Awards, and the TIFF premiering ‘Poster Boy’. I made my TV editing debut in 2026, cutting an episode of ‘Play for Today’ for 5/Paramount.

As an assembly editor, I helped cut ‘The Last First: Winter K2’, which premiered at Sundance 2026, and I will begin work as assembly editor on another Ventureland documentary later in 2026. My assistant credits include ‘Hill’ (Sky) and ‘7/7: A Homegrown Terror’ (Sky Docs).

I grew up in London, and speak French and Italian. Graduating from the National Film and Television School Editing MA in 2023, shorts I’ve cut have won multiple Audience awards and Jury prizes (Encounters, Palm Springs, Seattle etc), and played at festivals around the world.

For me editing is about getting to the heart of the story and the characters on screen, and about being a supportive and adaptable collaborator. Whether the film is raw and observational, or highly stylised and daring, I always aim to tailor my style of editing to the film and to aim to achieve the director and producer’s vision. And, it goes without saying, but I always want the edit to be a good time!
